To, while inaugurating a seminar one-day seminar was organised at the Punjabi University Campus here today.
This seminar was inaugurated by Singh Sahib. Renowned Sikh Scholar Dr. Jaswant Singh Neki delivered the key-note address.

Inaugurating the Seminar Jathedar Joginder Singh Ji Vedanti said that Jathedar Vedanti said that it is the thrust
of one's feeling towards one's master that takes him to supreme ecstasy. He further said that though Gurmukhi script was prevalent
prior to Guru Nanak Dev ji, yet it was with the efforts of Guru Angad Dev ji , it was put into its perfect shape. Jathedar
Vedanti on this occasion urged the Sikh scholars to prepare an authentic translation with annotation of Gurubani which could
be further translated into other languages of the world. He opined that it would help in popularising the Sikh philosophy
world over
In his key-note address Dr. Jaswant Singh Neki exhorted the scholars to shun "Ego" which according to him was
the basic hindrance to attain proximity with the Almighty. He emphasized that when a person surrenders himself to the to the
Will of the God, he becomes an integral part of the Almighty which makes an accelerating effect on the spiritual uplift of
human mind.
In his Presidential address Vice-Chancellor Swarn Singh Boparai expressed that we are fortunate to have participated
in this most fertile period. According to Shri Boparai, it is the philosophy of Gurbani which has encouraged us to stick to
ideas of highest orders bestowed by Sikh Gurus. He further stated that it was the influence of principles of Gurbani which
established the highest status of women in society. Vice-Chancellor added that inclusion of Guru Nanak Dev's Philosophy in
M.A. course; translation of Mahan Kosh by Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha into English; establishment of Gurmat Sangeet Chair were
some of the major projects undertaken by the University to celebrate these historic events. He further said that Punjabi University
has established "Centre for Technical Development of Punjabi Language" which is committed to make Guru Angad Dev's gift of
Punjabi Script globally available on Internet. This initiative of the University would help in learning and reading Punjabi
language all over the world, he said.
Earlier Dr. Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Dean, College Development Council and Convener of the Seminar while welcoming
the guests said that it was a matter of privilege and pride for us all to witness and be a part of these historical events.
He further said that though Bani of Guru Angad Dev Ji was quantitatively small but it contains qualitatively rich treasures
for the welfare of humanity. Dr. S.P.S. Virdi, Dean, Academic Affairs, while presenting a vote of thanks gave detailed information
regarding University activities in celebrating these historical centenaries. On this occasion former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bhagat Singh, former President,
Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Professor Kirpal Singh Badungar, Dr. Param Bakhshish Singh Registrar, Bhai Ashok
Singh Bagrhia also graced the occasion. In the Technical Session Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon from Guru Nanak Dev University,
Amritsar, Dr. Devinder Singh, Jammu University, Dr. Jasbir Singh Sabar and Dr. S.S. Joshi, Fellow, Punjabi University presented
their research papers on the life, philosophy and contributions of Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji.

RAGIS PERFORMED IN PUNJABI UNIVERSITY

Bhai Ghulam Mohammed Chand, the descendent of noted Rababi Bhai Chand - a former
'Hazuri Ragi' at Darbar Sahib who represented a unique tradition of Shabad Gayan, enthralled the audience with their soul
touching Gurbani Kirtan in the Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan here on the Punjabi University Campus recently. The function was organized
by the Gurmat Sangeet Chair of the University.
Punjabi University had extended an invitation to these great Kirtankars to hold a
kirtan darbar and conduct a workshop with the students of M.A. Gurmat Sangeet. A large number of university employees, teachers,
students and prominent personalities attended the Kirtan. Starting with 'Manglacharan' Bhai Chand with his typical style of
singing made a healing touch on the audience with his pious Shabad 'Mitar Pvare Noon Haal Muridan Da Kehna'.

on this occasion reaffirmed his faith that only adherence to virtue and traditions set by Guru Nanak could save ti-, from
f6rther deterioration and divisions and unite our hearts across the borders. He appreciated the efforts of Bhai Ghulam Mohammed
Chand in reviving the otherwise eloping tradition of Rababi Sangeet in this part of country. Vice-Chancellor honoured the
Kirtankars with university publications.
A
renowned Sikh Scholar Bhai Ashok Singh Bagrian emphasized that in the Sikh religion kirtan is considered to be the best way
to worship the Almighty.
Earlier Dr. Param Bakhshsish Singh, Registrar while welcoming the Kirtankars hoped that with the starting of the new
era of good relationship between India and Pakistan we will be able to fill the cultural void created by the partition of this great Country.

said that his department would make every possible efforts to restore
the precious traditions of gayaki. With the establishment of Sant Sucha Singh Archives of Music recording of prominent personalities
in the field of music would he made. Bibi Jasbir Kaur Khalsa. Chairnerson of Sri Guru Gyan Parkash Foundation and Ustad Badrudin Dagar, renowned Dhruped Gatan
Scholar were also present on this occasion.
